1846 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-101. Rarity-4. VF-25 (PCGS).
Boldly toned surfaces are awash in a rich blend of golden-charcoal and steel-gray. There are no marks of consequence, although surface encrustation in the date area is noted for accuracy. With just 31,300 pieces produced, the 1846 has the lowest mintage among circulation strike Liberty Seated dimes of the Stars Obverse design type. Survivors are even rarer than those of the fabled "Little Orphan Annie" 1844 dime. Gerry Fortin ( seateddimevarieties.com ) assigns Fine to VF examples of the 1846 a Rarity-4- rating, as opposed to the Rarity-3+ rating he assigns the 1844 in the same grades. This is a desirable offering that deserves serious bidder consideration.
