1852-O Liberty Head Eagle. Winter-1. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC.
This lovely example retains much frosty luster, and the fields are appreciably semi-reflective. Bathed in warm honey-olive color, bold striking detail to the focal features provides further appeal. Blushes of light orange are evident on both sides and provide evidence of this coin's originality. One of the most elusive No Motto Liberty Head eagles from the New Orleans Mint, the 1852-O has an extant population of fewer than 200 coins from a mintage of 18,000 pieces. It is the sixth rarest O-Mint issue of its type, a ranking it shares with the 1849-O. Mint State survivors are rare enough to be counted on one hand, their paucity placing extreme collector pressure on premium quality AU examples such as this offering from the Fairmont Collection. It is a coin that will serve with distinction in a specialized collection of Liberty Head eagles or Southern gold.
