1849-O Liberty Head Eagle. Winter-1. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC.
A delightful example that exhibits original honey-gold color with soft orange-olive highlights evident. Traces of mint luster remain. The strike is a bit soft around the obverse periphery, yet considerably bolder elsewhere. From a mintage of only 23,900 pieces, and as with virtually every other gold coin struck in New Orleans, wear and tear in commerce was the norm and not the exception. A significant condition rarity in AU and finer grades, any high quality 1849-O eagle such as this deserves serious bidder consideration.
