Description

1848-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 20-L. Die State III. EF-45+ (PCGS). CAC.
Warm honey-orange surfaces display lively luster on this sharply struck and minimally marked 1848-D half eagle. This is an underrated issue in the Dahlonega Mint half eagle series due to having a mintage of 47,465 pieces. It is actually one of the more challenging coins in this Southern gold series to locate in any grade. The present example in premium Choice Extremely Fine is rare from a condition standpoint and will appeal to advanced collectors looking to improve upon the typically encountered VF or low end EF survivor.
PCGS# 8238. NGC ID: 25TU.
From the Fairmont Collection - CAG Set.

Estimate: $3000
