1881 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-101a. Rarity-4. MS-64 (PCGS).
A predominantly light pewter-gray example with blushes of warm olive-blue iridescence drifting over both sides. Last in a run of three low mintage Philadelphia Mint issues from the later Liberty Seated dime series, the 1881 was produced to the extent of just 24,000 circulation strikes. Writing at the seateddimevarieties.com website, series expert Gerry Fortin observes, "This date is more difficult to locate than the 1879 and 1880 dates in all grades." A handsome near-Gem that will surely catch the eye of discerning collectors.
