1831 Capped Bust Half Dime. LM-2. Rarity-3. MS-66 (PCGS).
Smooth, satiny surfaces are untoned apart from blushes of lovely reddish-russet iridescence that drift across the obverse. This is a sharply struck coin, and also an expertly preserved one, and it is sure to see spirited bidding at auction. While LM-2 is only a moderately scarce variety of the 1831 issue in an absolute sense, this is only the second Mint State example that we have offered in the last decade. Indeed, the Long-McCloskey reference on this series reports, "High grade examples are still difficult to obtain." For the advanced collector specializing in the early half dime varieties, this offering deserves the utmost attention.
