1959 Franklin Half Dollar. MS-67 FBL (PCGS).
This is a virtually pristine example with handsome original toning that is more varied on the reverse, where golden-olive peripheral iridescence joins dominant pearl-gray patina. The latter color blankets the obverse. Highly lustrous with a silky smooth appearance, razor sharp striking detail is also a praiseworthy attribute. The 1959 has a generous mintage of 6,200,000 circulation strike, survivors of which are nonetheless elusive in grades above the MS-65 level, with or without an FBL designation. In the latter category, and at the Superb Gem level of preservation, the 1959 is " Extremely rare," as described by Franklin half dollar specialist Rick Tomaska (2018). The finest example of the issue that we can recall offering, this phenomenal condition rarity is sure to sell for a strong premium.
