1805 Draped Bust Cent. S-267. Rarity-1. MS-63 BN (NGC).
A lovely, conditionally rare example of the type, date and die pairing. Frosty surfaces are hard and tight, While they show no gloss, they also show no significant marks. In fact, only a few trivial obverse spots and more extensive carbon on the reverse at the letters STA in STATES and ON in ONE serve to limit the grade. Predominantly light rose-brown in color with an otherwise sharp strike that wanes appreciably only toward the lower left reverse border. Breen Die State III-IV, the reverse reground to remove clash marks, but not yet cracked at the letters ST in STATES. This is an impressive example at the certified MS-63 grade level. It is among the nicest 1805 cents of the Sheldon-267 pairing that we have ever had the privilege of bringing to auction, and will have no difficulty finding its way into another high quality cabinet.
