1787 Massachusetts Half Cent. Ryder 6-A, W-5970. Rarity-5+. EF-45 (PCGS).
Smooth and satiny in hand, the surfaces are dressed in warm olive-copper patina. There is scant denticulation along the left obverse border, the upper reverse border is soft, but otherwise we note bold to sharp detail at the assigned grade level. This scarce variety was missing from the Taylor Collection. It is rare above the VF level, and only a single Mint State example is known, the fabulous Kendall-Martin specimen in PCGS MS-64 BN. This Choice EF will represent the 1787 Ryder 6-A nicely in any but the most advanced Massachusetts copper cabinet.
PCGS# 296. NGC ID: 2B22.
