1889 Citizens of Philadelphia Steamship Danmark Life Saving Medal. Bronze. MS-67 BN (NGC).
48.5 mm. Obv: Winged figure over ship's steering wheel and anchor with peripheral inscription FROM THE CITIZENS OF PHILADELPHIA TO THE OFFICERS & CREW OF ATLANTIC TRANS-LINE S.S. MISSOURI. Rev: Wreath above, rowboat and nautical devices below, with central inscription that reads FOR / HUMANITY AND HEROISM / DISPLAYED IN RESCUING PASSENGERS / AND CREW OF STEAMSHIP / DANMARK / IN MID OCEAN / APRIL 1889. A fully struck, satiny example with handsome autumn-brown patina overall. Exceptionally smooth and highly appealing.
