Description

1940 United States Assay Commission Medal. By John R. Sinnock and Adam Pietz. JK AC-85. Rarity-6. Bronze. MS-64 (NGC).
51 mm. Warm, even golden-bronze finish with just a trace of faint carbon precluding a full Gem rating. This is a rare issue, the mintage just 24 examples achieved by quickly combining existing design elements in a time of rushed production at the Mint. The popular reverse design features the first U.S. Mint building with watchdog Nero at left, visitors on the front steps within tiny circular legend giving the building's history.
Acquired from Steve Hayden, September 29, 2013.

Estimate: $1200
