1860 Abraham Lincoln Campaign Ferrotype. DeWitt-AL 1860-118, Cunningham 2-940B, King-169. Brass. Plain Edge. Extremely Fine.
17 mm. Pierced for suspension, with attached loop. Lincoln portrait 1, based on an image from a Currier and Ives print, earlier from an 1859 photograph. A handsome ferro, with good luster on the bright brassy-gold shell. Both images are crisp and bold. Lincoln's shows some roughness at the top, tight in to the shell, while Hamlin's has a small area of discoloration before the chin. Uncommonly high grade for this scarce small-sized type.
