ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (17.01 gms), ca. 454-404 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Test Cut.
HGC-4, 1597; Kroll-8. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Well-centered on a round flan, this Tetradrachm displays a nearly full crest without sacrificing Athena's nose or neck truncation. The reverse is just as fully struck, though a test cut runs across the owl's face. The surfaces display deep cabinet toning. A pleasingly complete example of this essential type.
