Description

ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (17.05 gms), ca. 454-404 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Scratches.
HGC-4, 1597; Kroll-8. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Deeply toned with hints of color. This Tetradrachm displays a bold and attractive portrait of Athena. The final letter of the ethnic odd off-flan due to the narrow flan, but the owl is quite well-preserved. Some faint scratches are noted on Athena's cheek for completeness, but they are not distracting.
From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.

Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
