ITALY. Lucania. Velia. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (7.36 gms), ca. 280 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Flan Flaw.
HGC-1, 1326; HN Italy-1318. Obverse: Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with griffin; [A] above, IE within shallow square incuse behind neck; Reverse: Lion attacking stag to left. A beautiful Didrachm with sharp dynamic detail. The surfaces are lightly toned with spots of vibrant iridescent color and generous luster.
