GERMANY. Medallic Issues. Nurnberg. Silver Medallic Klippe, 1706. UNCIRCULATED Details--Holed.
Montenuovo-1344; Erlanger-2737; Julius-1172. By G. F. Nurnberger. Commemorating the Grand Alliance's Victories in the War of the Spanish Succession. Obverse: Large crowned radiant personification of the sun; three smaller crowns of differing style around; all with double linear and laurel wreath border, with rosette at each angle; Reverse: Large solar eclipse; below, drooping lis, with petals falling off; all with double linear and laurel wreath border, with rosette at each angle. A great allegorical type with a radiant sun and its eclipsing on the reverse, this medallic issue presents tremendous iridescence and allure, with the noted hole factoring little in its overall look, as many were converting into badges for wearing.
