GERMANY. Munster. Silver Medallic 1-1/4 Taler, 1648. Ferdinand von Bayern. NGC EF-45.
KM-48; Goppel-682. Obverse: Cityview of Munster, angels above holding sign and proclaiming peace; Reverse: Two hands emanating from the clouds at left and right clasping each other; behind, cornucopia and olive branch; below, scattered armaments. A tremendous medal commemorating the end of the Thirty Years Year, one of the most destructive conflict to ever plague the European continent, this wonderful piece offers a powerful numismatic relic. Fully struck and nicely detailed, the surfaces are rather attractive, and wear is confined to only the highest elements of the design. A rather attractively toned example, and one certain to generate much appeal from any collector of European medals or coinage.
From the Augustana Collection.
