NETHERLANDS. Battle of La Hogue Silver Medal, 1692. NGC AU-58.
Van Loon-96; MI-54/249. By: Jan Boskam. Obverse: Bareheaded, draped, and cuirassed bust right; Reverse: Unicorn and lion left, each holding trident, attacking cock right; naval battle behind. A rather charming medal, delivering strong details and essentially no evidence of handling. We can spot no discernable evidence of handling, and the surfaces retain a steely charm despite this medal's age. Impressive to hold in one's hands, and certain to enliven the next collection it enters.
From the Augustana Collection.
