MARTINIQUE. 3 Escalins (Moco), ND (1797). PCGS EF-40.
KM-26; Prid-1. Weight: 5.61 gms. Authorized by local ordinance of 1 September 1797. Cut 1/4 Spanish colonial bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV) with crenated edges. One of the more available issues of the West Indies series, this nicely preserved survivor exhibits even wear with rich gray patina. The surfaces are relatively smooth with signs of handling consistent for the grade. This issue appears with some frequency, mostly in conjunction with other islands, and is usually nearly worn slick. Wholly original looking with good eye appeal, this charming little cut fractional is sure to catch the attention of many collectors.
