62 mm. Obv: Laureate bust of an aviator wearing a leather flying helmet superimposed upon a geometric chevron. THE OLYMPIAD OF THE AIR encircles the lower part of the medal and a single star is centered above the head. Rev: Two "airmen" - half human and half airplane - soaring above a racing pylon and accompanied by a dirigible. The inscription 1939 NATIONAL AIR RACES 10TH arcs across the medal from 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock, and CHICAGO appears at the top. Edge: Lettered MEDALLIC ART CO N. Y. at 6 o'clock. This medal commemorates 1930 Olympiad of the Air and the National Air Races held in Chicago. Classic Art Deco style by Hausen (1892-1971).
