Description

Spur, Texas. $5 1929 Ty. 1. Fr. 1800-1. The Spur NB. Charter #9611. PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ. Serial Number 1.

According to Track & Price, this will be the first serial number 1 note to come forth from this north Texas issuer. The Spur National Bank was chartered in December of 1909, and issued $539,230 before liquidating on February 26th, 1934. $73,250 was reported outstanding at close, and just seventeen small size notes have come forth today. The bank building can still be viewed today (in more or less, its original state) on the corner of Burlington and Harris street. During the time of the banks operation, Spur had a population of around 1,100 (that number stands at 1,200 today) so we cannot imagine another low serial number such as this example popping up anytime soon. This note was most likely saved by a bank employee, thus preserving it for collectors and sparing it from circulation and ultimately destruction at the end of the National Banking era.

Estimate: $2000.00-$3000.00
