MD-132. Maryland. May 10, 1781. 15 Shillings. PMG Very Good 10.
Printed by Frederick Green. Signatures of Frederick Green and Isaac McHard. Red and black design on both sides. An incredibly rare type as this is the only example listed on PMG's Population Report, and no auction records are listed in Track & Price's census. This series, known as Red Money, was payable in specie and was to be redeemed between December 25th, 1784 and June 25th, 1785. This series was backed by proceeds from the confiscation of Tories property (otherwise known as Loyalists, those loyal to the Crown during the American Revolution). Scarce, as this is the first example we can recall handling, and surely missing from even the most advanced collections of early American paper money. PMG comments "Paper Damage." PMG Pop 1/No Others Graded.
