Description

GREAT BRITAIN. Silver Crown Pattern, ND (1820). George III. PCGS PROOF-65.
S-Unlisted; KM-PnB80; ESC-2055. Plain edge. By T. Webb and G. Mills for J. Mundie. A SCARCE pattern issue from the very end of the reign of George III, this enchanting specimen features an incredibly well engraved and lifelike portrait, which the artist held as his finest. Sharply struck, and with incredible precision that has left the devices with a cutting clarity. Delicate plum toning has attached itself to the Gem surfaces, providing eye appeal that is reminiscent of an amethyst. The fields are clean and free of haymarking of any note, and this example stands at the pinnacle of condition, being the sole finest certified by PCGS and tied with one NGC example at the Gem grade. A superbly attractive example, and one that should be much contested for by the many collectors of British Crowns looking to expand their numismatic cabinets.
