Description

GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Sovereign, ND (1544-47). London Mint; mm: pellet-in-annulet. Henry VIII. PCGS AU-53.
S-2295; Fr-167; N-1827. Third coinage. Weight: 6.17 gms. Obverse: Henry, holding orb and lis-tipped scepter, seated facing on elaborate throne; Tudor rose below; Reverse: Square-topped coat-of-arms surmounted by crown and with lion and dragon as supporters. Emanating from the final years of the reign of the larger-than-life Tudor monarch, this enticing example radiates with a golden-orange tone, clear features throughout, very little in the way of handling, and an incredibly wholesome and problem-free nature. Fairly RARE as such, and the finer of just two seen at PCGS for the type.
