RUSSIA. Ruble, 1705. (in old Cyrillic) Moscow (Kadashevsky) Mint. Peter I (the Great). NGC AU-53.
Dav-1642; KM-122.1; Bit-182 (R2). SCARCE variety with the "E" in the date ("АψЕ") reversed. Attractive and charming in nearly every facet, this beautiful and stunning Ruble offers an appeal to the eye that is seldom encountered on earlier types. Crisp details characterize the surface, with only a light touch of rub and circulation wear. Clear evidence of an understruck type is seen, though it is not entirely clear to distinguish what lies below. Some deep toning near the peripheries adds a touch of character to the glossy gray surfaces. An incredibly popular type owning to the striking date error, we expect strong competition to be the winning bidder of this lot.
