1962-D Franklin Half Dollar--Peeling Lamination Reverse--MS-63 (PCGS).
This visually stunning Mint error was almost certainly caused by an imperfection in the alloy of the planchet. The pressure of striking was too much for the imperfection, which caused a nearly bisecting lamination through the center of the reverse. The lamination begins just before 9 o'clock on that side and extends nearly to the opposite border close to the 2:30 position. The obverse is unaffected by the error, and both sides exhibit mottled golden-russet overtones to a base of antique silver-gray patina. Boldly to sharply defined, and sure to see spirited bidding among specialists.
