1853-D Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Winter 17-N, the only known dies. AU-58 (PCGS).
A vivid deep olive-orange example with plenty of iridescent reddish-rose toning intermingled over both sides. The strike is characteristic of the issue, the obverse bold in the center with softness at the border, the reverse with isolated areas of softness both in the center and at the border. In the absence of significant wear, however, the overall appearance is uncommonly bold in a survivor of this low mintage, conditionally challenged issue. Lustrous, softly frosted in texture and impressively smooth in hand.
