1818 Capped Bust Quarter. B-8. Rarity-3. MS-64 (NGC).
Pleasing golden-russet toning in certain design recesses throughout, with slightly deeper hues at the rims. Clean surfaces with virtually no detracting handling marks. Bold die clashing in the fields of the obverse and below Liberty's ear from the shield lines. Light die crack from the rim to the lowest leaf pair. Notably this reverse die is the only die to show the carefully hand engraved rear claw of the eagle just behind the lowest berry on the branch, a feature that must have been added by Robert Scot or another engraver as this would have been after John Reich left in 1817 (another possibility is this is a leftover die). Handsome quality and eye appeal for the type or date collector.
