1876 Twenty-Cent Piece. BF-2. Rarity-2. Doubled Die Reverse. MS-64 (NGC).
Deep silver-golden toning with great mint luster hidden underneath. A good strike is found on this unusual denomination. With only 14,750 business strikes produced, this date is rare in this lofty condition. Add the fact that it has a Doubled Die Reverse makes this coin even more desirable. This variety is unlisted in the Cherrypickers Guide and Breen, in his Encyclopedia, only gives this variety a passing mention. The doubling can be seen most clearly at STATES. More research is necessary to find out just how many of this variety exist as PCGS does not list this on its census.
PCGS# 5299. NGC ID: 23R8.
