Description

1901-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-62+ (PCGS). CAC.
Blended honey-gold and light pinkish-rose colors engage the viewer from highly lustrous, frosty textured surfaces. Double eagle production at the San Francisco Mint for 1901 was characteristically large at 1,596,000 pieces. In Mint State, Q. David Bowers (2004) provides a high end estimate for the issue of 9,000 or more pieces. This total, while not among the more generous for 20th century Liberty Head issues, is still sufficiently large to allow most collectors to acquire an attractive Uncirculated example, as here.
PCGS# 9040. NGC ID: 26CT.
From the Fairmont Collection - JBR Set.
