1798 Draped Bust Cent. S-165. Rarity-4. Style II Hair. VF-35 (PCGS).
A remarkable grade level for this, one of the more challenging of the many die varieties of 1798 cents. Nicely struck and only lightly worn leaving bold definition to all of the design elements. Predominantly smooth and glossy medium olive-brown surfaces that show a few minor marks and scratches and some brick-red patina by the date, but the overall appearance is quite pleasing and impressive considering a typical example of S-165 grades just Good or Very Good with problems. At PCGS, four examples have been graded VF-35 for the die variety with just two higher. A significant piece of Condition Census quality, a find for the advanced large cent variety enthusiast.
