Undated (ca. 1694) London Elephant Token. Hodder 2-B, W-12040. Rarity-2. GOD PRESERVE LONDON. Thick Planchet. AU Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS).
There is plenty of sharp to full detail remaining on both sides of this piece to tempt the budget minded type collector of colonial and related coinage. The obverse is toned in a blend of autumn-brown and medium brown colors, while the reverse is medium brown overall. Both sides are equally original in preservation, although unfortunately both show areas of pitting to explain the PCGS qualifier, the most significant of which are on the obverse around the elephant's shoulder. Marks are mostly minor and well scattered, however, so in general this is a pleasing, if more affordable AU example of this enigmatic type.
PCGS# 55.
