Description

"1898" (Inst. 1901) West Indies Naval Campaign (Sampson) Medal. Bronze. Extremely Fine.
38.5 mm, medal only, 81 mm x 40 mm including red-blue-red ribbon and hanger inscribed U.S.S. IOWA. Reverse inscribed SANTIAGO DE CUBA, JULY 3 below in exergue. Edge inscribed STEPHEN A. FARRELL 1 APP. 2D. C. The medal and hanger are minimally worn with bold ruddy-brown patina, although light residue is noted. The ribbon with minor soiling on both sides, some fraying on the back. Housed in the original black leather, purple plush interior case, which is fully functional, yet with considerable scuffing and fading to the exterior, moderate signs of handling for the interior. This is a scarce medal type, examples with the original case rare. (Total: 1 medal; 1 case)
