Description

1901 Lesher Referendum Dollar. Imprint Type, J.M. Slusher. HK-792, Zerbe-6. Rarity-5. Silver. No. 95. AU-55 (PCGS).
A handsome, fully original example dressed in a bold blend of steel-olive and dove-gray patina. Sharply struck throughout, the Slusher imprint is even and crisp with all letters fully discernible. Of the Imprint Type Lesher dollars distributed through merchants, the Slusher type is the most plentiful with a mintage of 260 pieces. This is a limited total in an absolute sense, of course, and the scarcity of this type is confirmed by the estimate of just 77 examples extant per the lesherdollars.com website. The offered example, however, is not included in the Adna Wilde Lesher Census, suggesting that it is a newcomer to the community of collectors who specialize in these intriguing pieces.
