Description

Mexico. The Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle. Sterling Silver. Awarded to Paul A. Volcker. Mint State.
57 mm. 61.4 grams, .925 finer. Circular badge backed by heavy pin, the badge with an eagle holding a rattlesnake in its beak on a ceramic turquoise base at center, surrounded by a ten-pointed star on an Aztec style background. Accompanied by a small golden ribbon indicating rank and a card which reads CON LOS ATENTOS SALUDOS DE LA DIRECCION GENERAL DEL PROTOCOLO DE LA SECRETARIA DE RELACIONES EXTERIORES (With the compliments of the General Directorate of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). In the original box of issue. Created by decree in December 1933, the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle is the highest Mexican order awarded to foreigners in the country. It was established as a reward for services provided to Mexico by foreigners and is given by the office of the foreign minister on the instructions of a council established for this purpose headed by the president. Over the past 90 years, the Order of the Aztec Eagle has been awarded to numerous heads of state, dignitaries, ministers, military figures, business people and others. Some of the more notable recipients include Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Emperor Hirohito, Dwight Eisenhower, Chiang Kai-shek, Charles de Gaulle, Walt Disney, Cesar Chavez and most recently, Jared Kushner. A most attractive and prestigious award.
