Description

1787 Fugio Cent. Pointed Rays. Newman 6-W, W-6730. Rarity-3. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. EF-45 (PCGS).
Very choice for the variety, a solid Condition Census example. Newman 6-W was not among the varieties uncovered in the Bank of New York hoard and there are no truly Mint State specimens extant to the best of our knowledge. This lovely example has wonderfully smooth surfaces and perfectly even light brown color. No marks, flaws, or roughness -- an ideal Fugio cent in all respects. Struck a tad off center towards 10 o'clock, but only the dentils were pushed off the planchet and all of the important design elements are clear and bold. Typical advanced die state, the obverse crack below the first S in BUSINESS extends up to the base of the sundial and the U of YOUR is filled in with a die break. Reverse plated in the original Newman monograph.
PCGS# 883. NGC ID: 2B8E.
