1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Large Planchet. Noe-8, Salmon 7-E, W-740. Rarity-4. Ligatured NE In Legend. EF-40 (NGC).
68.6 grains. Generally well struck on an irregular ovoid planchet with a somewhat ragged clip centered on 5:30 relative to the obverse. All major design elements are present, and all are bold except for the second letter A in MASATHVSETS, which is soft, yet still fully discernible. Light pearl-gray overall with iridescent golden-russet highlights flashing into view as the coin rotates under a light. There are no sizeable marks, although faint hairlines and a touch of glossiness to the texture are noted for accuracy. Struck from an early state of the Noe-8 dies without the massive reverse break at the letters GL in ENGLAND.
PCGS# 45373. NGC ID: 2ARY.
