Springfield, Massachusetts. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 466. The First NB. Charter #14. PMG Choice Fine 15.
Generous, very well balanced margins and sharp, clear signatures add to the eye appeal of this note. Though fairly well worn, this bank was among the first to be chartered in June 1863 and its liquidation in March 1906 meant that the Red Seals of 1902 were the last to be issued, though none have surfaced to date. This note last sold in March 2018 for $500.
