A scarce issue, and one of only two on the Census, this Brown Back $5 from the National Bank of Commerce of New Bedford Mass. is quite well-centered with four generous margins on the front, bold and sharp pen signatures and above average paper for the grade. As this bank was liquidated in April 1898, only First Charter and 1882 Brown Backs were issued. PMG's "Split" is quite small and virtually impossible to detect. This note brought $881.25 when last offered in January 2016. PMG comments "Split."
