Bellmore, New York. 1902 Plain Back $5 Fr. 606. The First NB. Charter #11072. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
Located on the southern shore of Long Island, Bellmore has a long history of settlement dating back to the 1640s. With only four large size notes of any type or denomination accounted for, and only $280 in Large Size notes outstanding in 1935, the rarity of this bank speaks for itself. The present note is one of only three listed on the Census, and small repair referred to by PMG is quite difficult to detect. The good far outweighs the bad here, and the note boasts outstanding signatures, four clear margins, fresh paper and good color. Even with the insignificant fault, this note brought $3,172.50 when it was last offered in August, 2012. PMG comments "Small Tear Repair."
