Description

Whitman, Massachusetts. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 472. The Whitman NB. Charter #4660. PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ.

Just five large size notes are reported in Track and Price's census for this Plymouth County issuer. Up until tonight, just one Brown Back $5 was available to collectors from this bank, with this note being a new & welcomed addition to the current census. The Whitman National Bank was issued in 1891 and issued a meager $332,730 during its tenure, with just $510 reported out for large size in 1935 at the end of the National Currency era. This example is far superior to the other $5 Brown Back known on the bank, which has not made a public auction appearance since 2011. This note is offered in an appealing mid-grade with PMG's all-important EPQ qualifier applied. The penned signatures are neat, and the paper is bright.

Estimate: $6000.00 - $8000.00
