A VF-25 1882 Date Back from the Safety Fund National Bank of Fitchburg, Mass featuring the desirable Circus Poster layout on the front. While all Circus Poster layouts are very scarce, they are very seldom seen on Date Backs as by their appearance in 1908, the Treasury had retired nearly all the plates with this fancy design. Nice off-white paper, sharp signatures and a rich blue overprint contribute to the visual appeal of this note. The margin is trimmed a bit at the top but that only slightly detracts from this otherwise attractive offering. Only two $5 Date Backs from this bank appear on the census. A similar note to this, also graded VF 25 by PMG, realized $4,080 in an April 2018 sale.
