New Canaan, Connecticut. $5 1875. Fr. 401. The First NB. Charter #1249. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20.
A problem-free and attractive first Charter $5 from the First National Bank of New Canaan, CT, the only issuer in this upscale Fairfield County town. New to the Census in 2012, it joined only one other (Very Good) example and is certainly the better of the two presently known. With a strong red overprint and sharp, clear pen signatures, it is a solid early issue from this much sought-after bank. It required a bid of $4,406 to acquire this note in its initial offering in August 2012.
