1850-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 23-O. AU-58 (PCGS). CAC.
A lustrous, softly frosted example that exhibits attractively original color in even golden-honey. The central high points are a bit soft, but the impression is otherwise sharp and the overall appearance is pleasingly bold by the standards of the Dahlonega Mint. Elusive in all grades due to extensive circulation, the 1850-D half eagle is typically represented by well worn, and often impaired survivors. In certified Choice About Uncirculated preservation this is one of the finest PCGS-certified examples from a mintage of 43,984 pieces, and it is also tied for highest graded with CAC approval. Just right for an advanced Southern gold cabinet, in which it will surely rank among the leading highlights.
