1836 Classic Head Half Eagle. HM-6. Rarity-3. AU-53+ (PCGS). CAC.
Delightful golden-apricot and pale olive colors are seen on both sides of this sharply defined and lustrous AU half eagle. Nine different die combinations produced more than half a million 1836 half eagles, the second largest production run among Classic Head issues of this denomination. After the first year 1834, no doubt saved in fairly large numbers due to its novelty, the 1836 is the most readily obtainable half eagle of this type in today's market. Most survivors are well worn, however, and a fair number are also impaired. Finding choice, problem free About Uncirculated examples such as this is becoming increasingly difficult with each passing year of numismatic activity.
