Netherlands--West Friesland. 1670 48 Stuivers, or Lion Daalder. KM-14.1, Dav-4870. MS-62 (NGC).
A particularly well made and uncommonly well preserved example of the type, both sides are evenly struck with universally bold detail to both sides. Considerably lustrous with an overlay of lovely iridescent toning in champagne-apricot and powder blue. The "Lion" daalders of The Netherlands and its states were gladly received in the American colonies and circulated widely in both New Amsterdam for the earlier dates, and later in New York City after the British took over New Amsterdam in the late 1640s. This type belongs in every early American collection being formed.
