1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 8-H, W-1490. Rarity-4. No Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. MS-63 BN (PCGS).
112.3 grains. A rare Mint State survivor of a scarce die variety that apparently had little to no representation in the famous Cohen Hoard that yielded so many of the Uncirculated Virginia halfpennies on the market today. This piece has lovely, original light brown surfaces that still retain traces of mint red. No marks to note and just a few spots of darker tone at the second G in GEORGIVS and G in VIRGINIA. A charming coin and a real find for the specialist.
