18 mm. This is a gorgeous piece with smooth, satiny surfaces that exhibit original steel-gray patina. All devices are sharp, and considerable traces of the undertype can be seen with close inspection. These include Liberty's head at the lower obverse border, the entire date 1858 at the upper border on the same side, and much of the denomination ONE DIME within the shield on the reverse. Elusive in an absolute sense and rare from a condition standpoint, this impressive piece will serve as a highlight in a specialized Civil War token collection.
