Delm-141B. Weight: 6.28 gms. Rampant lion of Holland left within beaded oval boarder. Applied to the obverse of an undated Spanish Netherlands 1/5 Philipsdalder of Philip II. The countermark is boldly applied to moderately worn and nicely preserved host displaying beautiful old cabinet patina with a slight iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light. During the revolt against Spain the provinces of Holland and Zeeland increased the value of coins given as payment by 1/8 of their value. All coins except for those smaller than 1/10 Daalder had to be stamped either with the insignia of Holland or Zeeland.
