CURACAO. 3 Reaals (18 Stivers or Guillotine), ND (1818). PCGS F-12; Countermark: VF Details.
KM-28.1; Prid-pg. 252 Fig. 27. Long "3" variety. Issued by local ordinance of 13 July 1818. Stylized "3" within circular border countermark. Applied to the reverse of a 1/5 cut Spanish Colonial portrait 8 Reales, presumably of Charles IIII(IV). The countermark is bold and clear with evidence of being reworked elongating the points of the "3" applied to a moderately worn host. The reverse exhibits the raised cord-like designs at the edges of the cuts offering diagnostics for this issue. Most of the monarch's name is present, but is missing the ordinal preventing more accurate attribution of the host. This handsome cut piece displays light attractive gray tone with a slight rose-colored iridescent sheen offering a pleasing appearance.
